I like to keep up-to-date on my TYPO3 extensions, but it is often a challenge to know which extensions need to be updated at any particular time. The main list view in the extension manager only shows the version number of each extension you have installed on your system but not the most current version available.
Until earlier this summer, I knew of only two ways to figure out which extensions needed to be updated. One was to look up each extension individually and see if there was a later version. This is very time consuming and a pain to do. Second was to go to "import extensions" and lookup extensions with the search box empty. This would bring up a list of all extensions and I would scroll down the list and find mismatches between my installed version and current version available. But this was also was too slow and prone to error as the list is almost 2,000 entries long!
Then I discovered the "TER Update Check" extension (ter_update_check). After installation, this extension adds "Check for TER 2 Updates" to the menu in the Extension Manager. Select this new menu item and it will bring up a list of any of your installed extensions that have a newer version available. You may then click on the name of any these listed extensions and install the updated version.
TER Update Check has made checking for new versions much easier.
