The Toolbox

Although I am committed to providing custom solutions to my clients, those solutions are not proprietary and are constructed by using proven web technologies as building blocks. I work to design sites that will perform well for years and that can be maintained by the client. Even though I welcome repeat business, I will not develop a solution that can only be expanded by Busy Noggin. If the client chooses, other competent developers can add new functionality to sites originally designed by Busy Noggin.

The main tool I use is TYPO3, an enterprise-level content management system (cms). The reason I chose this cms as central to Busy Noggin sites is expressed in two words: power and flexibility. It is never a question if something can be done in TYPO3 but only a question of how best to do it.

Once a TYPO3-based Busy Noggin site is launched, content changes can be made directly by the client without special software. Translation: The client does not have to call a web designer every time they need to add a page, change a date or add a photo. Even non-technical users can make changes.

Tens of thousands of websites run on the TYPO3 frame work and its administrative interface has been translated into over 40 languages making it a truly international effort. It can support multiple websites and languages in a single installation.

Check out the list a few of the advantages of TYPO3 on the right of this page. You can find out more about TYPO3 at www.typo3.com.

TYPO3 Advantages

  • TYPO3 is open source so the software, extensions and all upgrades can be downloaded for free. This means all resources (time, personnel, financial) can be directed towarded addressing a client's unique needs.
  • It can be easily extended. Currently, there are over 1,900 publicly available, free extensions that can added to any core installation of TYPO3 to provide special functionality. And, if the needed, new extensions can be programmed to accommodate one-of-a-kind client needs.
  • TYPO3 is based on php and mySQL, two extremely common, well-supported web technologies.
  • It is a mature cms with a substantial history and a large user base. Its substantial and active developer community ensures continued development and support.
  • It can support many users, each with varying levels of access to the system
  • If needed, its workflow engine can be configured to allow for editor's work to pass through an approval process before going live.
  • It has a very long and enterprise-level feature list.
